Meet Sarah Cannon

I moved to California from London, England back in 2016 and am blessed to be a mum to two kiddos and two canines! I love art and design, horses and being out in nature, and spending quality time with my family. I spent my childhood in rural England and had a rain or shine outdoor lifestyle. My mum, who had a catering company, fed my brother and I like adults - meaning we ate what they ate (sometimes with a few less spices and chilies!). Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, North African and good old British meat and veg! This varied diet sparked a passion in me for amazing cuisine and culture, which spun off into a love of travel and adventure. Before I moved into the world of functional medicine I worked as a designer and co-founded the interior design company Cannon & Creswell.

I was drawn to principles of functional medicine before I even knew the name for it! In my late teens and early twenties I was suffering from chronic digestive issues, fatigue, anxiety, and fertility problems. Then, a mosquito transmitted viral infection toppled me and flawed my immune system. At the age of 20 I transitioned to a gluten-free diet and in the years that followed I brought in, and cut out, other elements from my diet, lifestyle, and environment. I found that investing in healthy, nourishing foods, honest relationships and looking after my mental health all contributed to a significant improvement to my overall wellbeing. Addressing myself as a whole person, and not just my diagnosed health complaints, rewarded me with significant improvements and lasting changes.

Being an Advocate.

Years later my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac disease. Her diagnosis came with mixed feelings, ‘finally we know what’s been wrong all these years’, guilt, ‘how was this missed’ closely followed by ‘what now?!’ She was at an advantage as having a mum who was already gluten-free meant she had someone in her camp! But still, it was not easy and was a steep learning curve for us all as a family. I threw myself into finding out as much as I could about how to live and thrive with Celiac disease, its hurdles, health complications and how I could be an ally and advocate for her. Once we were established and settled into our new reality, I shifted my focus to teaching her how be her own advocate and to take the reins when needed.

I became a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach so I can support clients who are struggling with their health and help to empower them with the tools for change.

Testimonials

“I worked with Sarah for several months over 6 sessions. Throughout our time, I accomplished my main goals and more. Sarah is an attentive, caring and detailed health-coach, who leads you to fulfill your own goals. During our sessions, I explored barriers to my goals and different pathways to help resolve them. My larger goals were accomplished in smaller steps as we met, which made it much more doable. We'd always go over what we’d done previously to reinforce the skills I’d been working on. I now have new confidence in my meal planning skills and taking care of myself. I never felt rushed or like anything was too difficult—each task we implemented was something we figured out would work for me. Sarah is very good at recognizing a person’s individual needs and developing a unique strategy. It feels good to work with someone who's on your side, rooting for you. I have learned so much in my time health-coaching, and I've become more strong, confident, and capable in these areas.”
